Response by Karen Harrington to the President's State of the Union Address
The message from President Barack Obama and Debbie Wasserman Schultz in tonight’s State of the Union address is crystal clear- they both want us to forget what their record has been over the past three years, and they both want to continue to expand government at the expense of our freedoms.
Their goal is straightforward— to continue down their unsustainable path of increasing deficits, debt, and government encroachment while dividing Americans along racial and class lines. Their highly polarizing ideology will only lead the country towards increasing amounts of government dependency and ultimately, national bankruptcy.
The President’s calls for “compromise” are misleading, as he will only accept compromises that continue to move our country down an unsustainable path.
Because of increasing federal government regulation, too many small businesses in South Florida no longer have the confidence to expand their operations or create new jobs.
We must change course and provide a clear alternative to their reckless agenda.
We must restore Americans' confidence in the economy by getting government off our backs. If we’ve learned anything from the last three years, it’s that excessive government control creates economic uncertainty, stifles job creation, and disincentivizes work.
The American people constitute the smartest and most capable workforce in the world. There is simply no reason for the record levels of sustained unemployment we have experienced over the past three years other than the complete failure of President Obama’s and Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ economic policies.
In 2012, the choice before all Americans could not be any clearer— do you want more government control over your lives that limits your choices and your prosperity, or do you want to begin to restore your liberties and put an end to the politics of envy and division?
Debbie Wasserman Schultz will continue to parrot Barack Obama’s talking points throughout the 2012 campaign. I trust that the constituents of Congressional District 20 will be wise enough to cut through their rhetoric and see the damage that their empty promises have caused.
